You're reading: Report: Ship with weapons, en route from Ukraine, detained in Greece waters

The Greek coast guard has detained the Nour M cargo ship in the Aegean Sea, sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone from Ukraine and carrying a large quantity of arms and explosives without proper documents, the local mass media have reported.

According to data from ANA, the state news agency of the Athens, the
ship was intercepted near the Greek island of Symi. The captain said the
destination was the Turkish port of Iskenderun. At the same time, there
are reports that some of the load might have been intended for delivery
to the ports of Tartus (Syria) and Tripoli (Libya).

According to ANA, the captain, a Turkish citizen, and seven crew members were arrested.

The media also reported that the cargo ship left Mykolaiv on October 25, from October 30 to November 3 had stood in Istanbul.

In the past, the ship was used to transport drugs.
