The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office is preparing to ask the country's parliament (Verkhovna Rada) to strip a number of parliamentarians of their immunity from criminal prosecution and permit their arrest, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin has said.

“I would like to inform you that since the investigation has identified certain persons among Party of Regions MPs, a request is currently being drawn up, asking the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to strip them of their immunity [from criminal prosecution] and allow their arrest,” he told a press briefing at the Prosecutor General’s Office on July 28.

When asked when such requests could be submitted, Shokin said: “I can tell you that these requests are being prepared. There will be more than one [request]. You will see everything when the time is right. The [Verkhovna Rada] session opens in September. That is why we will not submit requests concerning either Lozovy (Radical Party MP Andriy Lozovy] or any others.”
