You're reading: Signals on issue of date of Donbas elections are being sent to Donetsk, Luhansk – Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed that the issue of the dates of local elections in Donbas was discussed in the meeting between the leaders of the "Normandy four" in Paris and said relevant "signals" from Moscow are now being sent to Donetsk and Luhansk.

“In accordance with the proposal made by the French hosts, which was supported by the German chancellor, the possibility of approving such dates of Donbas elections that would ensure the fulfillment of all other political aspects of the Minsk agreements was discussed. Including amnesty, including the special status, including the constitutional reform,” Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow.

Lavrov said that “because representatives of Donetsk and Luhansk were not in Paris for obvious reasons, Vladimir Putin, the head of the country that is looking to be an active mediator in the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, promised to pass this comprehensive idea that was proposed by our French and German partners through our channels.”

“Accordingly, as I understand, such signals are now going to Donetsk and Luhansk. We will learn about the reaction later,” Lavrov said.
