Only 8.3 percent of Ukrainians consider the signature of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union to be an important event for the country, as demonstrated by a poll of 3,035 respondents comducted by the Kyiv International Sociology Institute under a contract with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia Ukraine (Mirror of the Week Ukraine, zn.ua) publication in 179 populated areas of Ukraine on December 6-17.

The interviews for the survey in Luhansk Oblast were conducted
only within the territory controlled by Kyiv. This is true at most times for Donetsk Oblast too.

The share of those considering the signature of an association
agreement with the EU an important event is higher in the western part
of the country (18 percent), compared to only 1.5 percent in Donbas and 5.8 percent in the
east of Ukraine in general.

Only 2.2 percent mentioned the early elections to the Verkhovna Rada and
only 2.1 percent the appearance of new people in the government among the
important events.

The adoption of the law on lustration is seen as the most important event by only 1.9 percent of those polled.

At the same time, 46 percent of the respondents said they were shocked by the deaths of people in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.

The killing of about 100 people during the EuroMaidan events shocked 39.1 percent of the respondents.

Crimea’s unification with Russia is seen as the main event of the year by 35.8 percent of Ukrainians.

As many as 19.3 percent of residents of Ukraine saw former President Viktor
Yanukovych’s and his associates’ flight from Ukraine as the most
important event of the year, and 7.5 percent believe what is more important is
not so much Yanukovych’s and his entourage’s flight as the fact that
they have escaped punishment.

The fall of the hryvnia’s exchange rate has come as a significant blow to 14.1 percent of those polled.

Only 10.4 percent mentioned the self-proclamation of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics as the key event of the year.
