Military prosecutors have opened a criminal case on terrorism charges after an aircraft came under fire in the Donetsk region. "Donetsk prosecutors overseeing compliance with the military laws in the southern region of Ukraine have registered this fact in the single register of pre-trial investigations as an offense envisaged under Article 258 Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (a terrorist attack resulting in significant material damage or other grave consequences)," the prosecutors' spokesperson said on April 23.
The criminal dossier has been sent for subsequent investigation to the investigative unit of the Ukrainian Security Service Directorate for the Donetsk region, the spokesperson said.
A day earlier, on April 22, an Antonov AN-30B transport aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force was fired upon by an automatic rifle while on a mission near Sloviansk. One crew member was injured and the aircraft’s fuselage damaged by the bullets (which punctured the hydraulic system).
Despite the damage, the aircraft commander decided to return to the base airfield where it landed later.
