You're reading: Sobolev: Price of electricity and water supply for Crimea needs to be revised

Tariffs for the supply of electricity and water to Crimea from mainland Ukraine should be revised, according to the leader of the Batkivschyna faction, Serhiy Sobolev.

“We understand that the price of electricity cannot be at the level
it was previously. We understand that water cannot be supplied at the
price that was earlier – especially in the dry season,” he said on
Channel 5.

As reported, the actual balance of power flows between the mainland
part of Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula in 2013 amounted to plus 5.957
billion kWh.

The production of electricity in Crimea itself in 2013 amounted to
1.171 billion kWh, while in the same period it consumed 7.128 billion
kWh.

According to Ukrenergo, Crimea’s taking power from mainland Ukraine
in the autumn-winter peak load of Ukraine’s united energy system on
December 11, 2013 amounted to 1.125 GW. The maximum winter loading was
1.2 GW (the minimum winter load – 0.65 GW), the maximum summer load –
1.1 GW (the minimum summer load – 0.545 GW).

Ukraine supplies water to Crimea via the North-Crimean channel.
Without such supplies agriculture in most parts of the peninsula would
be impossible.
