BRUSSELS- Members of the European Parliament, who decided to observe the illegal election in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), do not have a European Parliament mandate and act as private persons, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok has said.

The EU will not recognize the election held not in line with Ukrainian law. The election also contradicts the Minsk protocol and it is aimed at frustrating the peace process in Donbas, he said in a statement spread on Friday.

He said that some MEPs, in particular, MEP from Hungary Bela Kovacs, planned to observe the said election.

If this is confirmed, they had no mandate of the European parliament to observe the election and speak on the behalf of the parliament, he said
