Donetsk - Some high-ranking officers of the regional branches of Ukraine's Interior Ministry, Security Service, Emergency Situations Service and Prosecutor's Office have been sent to Mariupol in order to coordinate efforts aimed at maintaining order in the south of the Donetsk region, Donetsk Region Governor Serhiy Taruta has said.

Taruta made this announcement at a session addressing the situation in the southern parts of the Donetsk region in Mariupol on Thursday, the regional administration’s press service has reported.

The most complicated situation can be observed today in the Starobesheve district, where, according to Taruta, “illegal armed groups continue to stage provocations.”

High-level negotiations involving former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and international mediators continue, he said.

“Hopefully, we will be able to secure a major compromise and will tackle all issues at the negotiating table instead of with the help of a machinegun,” Taruta said.
