TSHINVALI, South Ossetia - South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov has congratulated Alexander Zakharchenko and Ihor Plotnitsky on being elected the "leaders" of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic through the so-called "polls" on November 2.

“The Donetsk People’s Republic, created by the will of the people as stated through the referendum of May 11, 2014, has entered a new stage in building its statehood. According to information from our observers and members of the expert community, the elections were impeccable from the legal point of view and showed a very high turnout amid unceasing military action on the part of the Kyiv authorities. We see this as a vivid manifestation of the desire of the people for self-determination and their firm support for purely legal, democratic means of tackling problems of statehood construction,” Tibilov said in a congratulatory message to Zakharchenko.

Interfax (interfax.ru) has obtained the text of the message.

Tibilov sent a similar message to Plotnitsky, praising the self-determination fight of the Luhansk People’s Republic.

“We are sure that this will be a victorious fight, and that in the near future there will logically be a new state recognized internationally on the political map of the world, the Luhansk People’s Republic. Our people, who have traversed a long and dramatic path of statehood construction, are full of pride that it is the republic of South Ossetia that has launched the process of international recognition of the LHR. We are determined to continue to give all forms of support to your just fight and to build friendly relations with the brotherly people of the Luhansk [People’s Republic],” Tibilov said.
