South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov signed on June 27 a decree recognizing the sovereignty of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

“Taking into account the declaration of the will of the people and the address of the Donetsk People’s Republic supreme council to the South Ossetian president to recognize the DPR’s sovereignty, which was supported by the South Ossetian parliament, I order to recognize the DPR as a sovereign independent state,” the decree obtained by Interfax said.

Tibilov has ordered the Foreign Ministry to hold talks on establishing diplomatic ties with the DPR.

South Ossetia’s Security Council has recommended Tibilov to recognize the DPR’s sovereignty.

Meanwhile, South Ossetia recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic last week.
