The illegitimate referendums in Donetsk and Luhansk regions will have no legal effects for the territorial integrity and structure of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday, May 11.

“The May 11 illegitimate ‘referendum’ over the status of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, inspired, organized and financed by the Kremlin, is legally void and will have no legal consequences for the territorial integrity and structure of Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry said in a commentary issued in Kyiv.

“The organizers of this criminal farce have deliberately chosen to breach the Ukrainian Constitution and laws and ignored the calls of the Ukrainian authorities and the international community,” the ministry said.

Having noted that “terrorist formations trained in line with the latest Russian standards” were behind the referendums, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the overwhelming majority of the Ukrainians in Donetsk and Luhansk regions have not yielded to these actions.

“The Ukrainian people does not recognize any referendum, either in Donetsk or Luhansk region, nor in Crimea, and the reaction of the entire international community will be the same,” Kyiv said.
