IVANO-FRANKIVSK – The State Forestry Agency of Ukraine is planning to introduce an electronic wood management system by the end of the current year for the prevention of illegal logging.
"We are working on the introduction of an electronic wood management system by the end of the year," State Forestry Agency Chairman Viktor Sivets told journalists in Ivano-Frankivsk on September 12, 2012.
He noted that the introduction of the electronic management system started during the season of sales of Christmas trees.
"The electronic management system will work. If wood is transported without electronic chips on it, of course this means that the wood was bought illegally," the official said.
Sivets added that the introduction of the electronic management system would bring illegal logging "to naught."
