Some 4.3% of Ukrainian families received subsidies to pay for housing and utilities services in January 2010, which is 0.2% less than in January 2009, the State Statistics Committee reported.

According to the committee, the highest percentages of state-aided families were recorded in Sumy, Donetsk and Kharkiv regions (7-9.5%), and the smallest in Crimea, Odesa region and Sevastopol (0.9-1.1%).

The average subsidy rates for housing and utilities services per family increased by 13.6% in January 2010 compared to the same period of the previous year, and totaled Hr 160.3.

According to the committee, 64.5% of families that obtained subsidies in January 2010 consisted of one member.

The largest subsidy rates in January were recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia and Lviv regions (Hr 227.8 – 271.8), the smallest – in Kyiv and Mykolaiv region (Hr 73.8 and Hr 89.9 respectively).

The total sum of subsidies for housing and utilities services amounted to Hr 11.3 million in January 2010, which was Hr 1.4 million less than the corresponding index in 2009.

In 2009, the total sum of subsidies appropriated to help pay for housing and utilities services was Hr 143.4 million, which was 15.1 times more than the previous year.
