You're reading: Substation shooting cuts power supply to Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant in Luhansk region

Armed people broke into the Almazna 220-kV substation and opened submachine gunfire at two transformer units on May 18. Power supply to Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant in Luhansk region was disrupted as a result, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry press service reported.

The ministry said the substation personnel had to stop power supply in order to confine the fire. Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant came to a halt (its six furnaces were operating at the incident moment).

A team of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine put out the blaze. Some 124 megawatt power was disconnected.

Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant makes ferrosilicon, ferrosilicon manganese and ferromanganese. PrivatBank (Dnipropetrovsk) organizes business operations of Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant, the Zaporizhia Ferroalloy Plant and Marhanets and Ordzhonikidze ore dressing factories.
