Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Vasyl Onopenko is neither a suspect nor a defendant in any criminal case opened by the country's Prosecutor General's Office, the PGO's press service has said in a statement.

"The Prosecutor General’s Office has no claims against Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Onopenko, who is not a defendant or a suspect in any criminal case opened by the Prosecutor General’s Office," the press service said.

At the same time, the Prosecutor General’s Office said that the main department for high-profile cases was holding a pre-trial investigation as part of a criminal case against a daughter of Chairman of the Supreme Court Vasyl Onopenko, Iryna Onopenko, and her ex-husband Volodymyr Kotliarov, concerning a fraudulent seizure of funds in foreign currency involving a sum of $2.4 million.

As during the pre-investigation checks the suspects were hiding from law enforcement agencies, the investigators, on the basis of a permission issued by Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, conducted searches in five of premises owned by the suspects, including a private house in the capital city.

In addition, the PGO is checking reports of the involvement of another son-in-law of Onopenko’s, Yevhen Korniychuk (husband of Onopenko’s other daughter Lada) in the seizure by fraud of funds equivalent to Hr 64 million in foreign banks.
