Most Ukrainians do not support the introduction of a total ban on the advertising of alcohol, tobacco, and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, Director General of the IFAK Research Agency in Ukraine Serhiy Hovorukha has said.

"Ukrainians do not support a complete ban on the advertising of OTC medications, alcohol and tobacco products," he said at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Hovorukha referred to the results of a study conducted by IFAK on May 4-15. A total of 1,800 respondents aged 18-55 years participated in the survey, and the poll’s margin of error is 2.4%.

He said that 47% of the respondents had called for restrictions on the advertising of OTC drugs, 34% believe that the placement of such advertisements should not be banned, 15% of respondents think that such advertising should be completely banned, and 4% were undecided.

According to the survey, most citizens (53%) believe that the advertising of alcohol should be limited within the existing bans. Some 36% believe that alcohol advertising should be completely banned, and 6% of respondents think that the advertising of alcohol should not be banned, as it is a legal product, and 5% of citizens were undecided.

Some 47% of respondents believe that it is necessary to limit the advertising of cigarettes, and 44% believe that the advertising of cigarettes (including on the Internet, and at points of sale) should be completely banned. According to 6% of those polled, the advertising of tobacco products should not be banned, as they are legal products. Some 3% of respondents failed to answer.
