You're reading: Suspect in Ukrainian journalist Buzyna’s murder released on bail

Denys Polischuk, one of the suspects into the murder of Ukrainian journalist Oles Buzyna, has been released from a remand center in Kyiv after bail of over Hr 5 million was posted for him.

Polischuk was greeted by his relatives, supporters and journalists holding flowers and banners, an Interfax correspondent has reported.

It remains unknown who posted the bail.

Andriy Medvedko and Polischuk, accused of murdering Buzyna, were detained on June 18. Another man was detained later that day on suspicion of helping to organize the killing.

According to Polischuk, he served in Donbas at the rank of Guard Lieutenant of Ukraine’s Army.

On June 18, Kyiv’s Shevchenkivsky District Court ordered that Polischuk be held in custody for 60 days as a restraining measure and set bail for his release at Hr 5 million.

On June 19, the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office appealed the court ruling.

Buzyna was shot and killed in the yard of an apartment block where he lived in Kyiv in April.
