The Kyiv branch of the Svoboda Party has submitted its application to stage a protest against the upcoming visit of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin to Ukraine on the occasion of the 1,025th anniversary of the Christianization of the Kyivan Rus.

“The rally is scheduled for 0900 on July 27 on European Square near the Ukrainian House. We have traditionally held it there annually for several years,” Head of Kyiv branch of the Svoboda Party, MP Andriy Illenko told and Interfax-Ukraine reporter on Wednesday.

While commenting on the ruling of Kyiv District Administrative Court dated July 19, 2013, which bans holding mass rallies on Independence Square and in its surroundings on July 20-31, 2013, the MP said: “There is a court ruling on the Independence Square. We are going to hold our rally on European Square. Are there any problems about that? There is a distance of 400 meters between these squares, these are different places with different addresses.”

As reported, a celebratory prayer service will begin on Volodymyrska Hill in Kyiv at 1000 on July 27. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are expected to participate in the event.

The distance between Volodymyrska Hill and European Square is not more than 500 meters.
