All educational institutions in Ukraine are prepared for the start of the new academic year, Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports Dmytro Tabachnyk has said.

"All educational institutions are prepared for the new academic year," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, August 31st.

Tabachnyk said that 19,600 schools would open their doors on September 1st. Some 4.2 million schoolchildren, including 416,000 first graders, will go to school, he added.

He said that all of the schools had the necessary number of teachers and that for the first time in nearly two decades, 11th graders would receive textbooks on government contracts on time. Tabachnyk said that such textbooks were currently being supplied to the regions and distributed to schools.
