You're reading: Tabachnyk: Lecturers can work for several universities

Ukraine's Education and Science, Youth and Sports Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk has said lecturers can work for several universities at the same time, as long as this does no harm to quality of their teaching.

"It’s completely normal for the best professors to lecture at several universities in addition to their main work place. The main thing is for this not to become mere window dressing," Tabachnyk told the Education in Ukraine publication in an interview posted on the ministry’s Web site on Wednesday.

The minister added that part-time lecturing at several universities was practiced all over the world, and was also done in the times of the Soviet Union.

According to the minister, due to the fact that this year fewer students were entering the universities, a competition for "the label quality and big names," as well as for the level of professors and lecturers might begin between higher education establishments.

"The universities will have to fight for the best professors," the minister said.
