Education, Science, Youth and Sports Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk has said that a new Ukrainian history textbook for the 11th grade pupils will be issued from the beginning of a new educational year.

"A new textbook, written by various authors for the 11th grade, will be issued this year on September 1. I have not read all of the texts, but they underwent a very strict study by the academy of sciences and pedagogical teams of universities. At present, in my opinion, these textbooks are rather objective," the minister said in an interview with the Segodnia newspaper published on Saturday.

He noted that the term of the Great Patriotic War [of 1941-1945, the Second World War] had been revised in the new edition, and the "portrayal of the OUN-UPA [the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army] is objective."

The minister explained that none of the textbooks had undergone revision by the ministry.

"The textbooks are written by the authors, not by the ministry," he said.

Tabachnyk also said about the plans regarding the provision of schools with textbooks written in the language of instruction.

"Speaking about positive things at schools, then this year we will ensure all 11th grade students without exception will have textbooks in the language of instruction," he said.
