Education, Science, Youth and Sports Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Tabachnyk has said that at Ukrainian schools pupils have learned and will learn about Russian literature as part of a course on world literature.

"The course of world literature [is a course] during which the best examples of literature of the peoples of the world are studied, [and] as Russian literature is one of the most prominent world literatures, and it has been learned during the times of education ministers before me, and it will always be learned as part of the course on world literature," he told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Tabachnyk noted that the new plan of literature education in no way changes the established curriculum.

"The plan of literature education is just a search for new ways of teaching, an answer to the question of how to create an integrated course for teaching Ukrainian and world literature," the minister said.
