Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk has promised soon to make changes in the subject of foreign literature at schools, by renaming it "world literature."

"As the minister, I’ve set the task of getting away from the term ‘foreign literature’ and returning to a single integrated course – ‘world literature,’" he said in a conference call of the Komsomolskaya Pravda v Ukraine newspaper, the publication wrote on Tuesday.

He said that "three world treasures of spiritual culture" were being taught in the leading foreign universities, in particular, "ancient Greek philosophy, German classical philosophy and Russian literature."

"So it seems to me that the return to Ukrainian schools of Russian literature in its original language is, first and foremost, an important task to improve the quality of the education of our schoolchildren and enable it to be more competitive in the world," Tabachnyk said.
