SEVASTOPOL – Should Ukraine be taking steps towards its European integration it will become part of the European Union, Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador José Manuel Pinto Teixeira told this to reporters during the presentation of the project on foreign direct investment promotion in Sevastopol.

"The European Union deems Ukraine as a part of Europe, their neighbor and long-term partner for the European Union. Should Ukraine take steps towards the European integration with the EU, it will become part of the EU. We understand that this is what most Ukrainians want," Teixeira said.

The EU ambassador recalled that the talks on the association had been finished.

"This agreement can become the best instrument for reforms in Ukraine. The EU has made it clear what it expects from the Ukrainian authorities. These demands surely include abandoning the use of the justice system as means to achieve certain political ends. This is the demand for arranging democratic process," Teixeira said.

He also expressed the hope that the existing situation could change soon.
