President of the United States Barack Obama congratulated the President and the people of Ukraine on the 23rd anniversary of the independence of Ukraine.

‘Since gaining independence in 1991, Ukraine has gone through numerous challenges and the United States has always been close. During this period our two nations have been working jointly to strengthen peace, democracy and economic growth in Ukraine and beyond its borders,’ Barack Obama stressed.

Barack Obama noted that the past year had been promising and difficult for Ukraine. ‘But both in better times and in the most difficult moments, people in Ukraine must know that the USA is a partner and friend. We decisively support the right of Ukraine to choose its own future. In this regard, it was a pleasure for me to see your Government signing the Association Agreement with the EU. This event became a significant step on the way of building a more democratic, prosperous and fair Ukraine,’ the U.S. President noted.

President Obama emphasizes that the USA appreciates its friendship with the people of Ukraine and hopes to continue cooperation.
