A demonstration of the communists and supporters of the Communist Party of Ukraine devoted to International Workers' Day has begun in the center of Kyiv.

The column of demonstrators is headed by Ukrainian Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko, MPs Adam Martyniuk, Petro Tsybenko and others. Several brass bands are accompanying the procession.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that about 12,000 people gathered on Khreschatyk Street and the adjacent Khmelnytskoho Street and Shevchenko Boulevard on Wednesday.

The participants in the march are holding the flags of the Ukrainian Communist Party and banners in support of the Customs Union, with anti-fascist slogans. Many people are in red caps and T-shirts with communist symbols (hammer and sickle).

Among the marchers are elderly and young people.
