Three civilians have died in shelling in Donetsk in the past 24 hours, the Donetsk City Council said in a report posted on its Web site on Aug. 27 morning.

“According to the Emergency Situations Ministry, eleven shells hit residential and other buildings over the past day. The destruction was the greatest in Petrovsky district. The district has reported civilian casualties – three persons sustained lethal fragmentation wounds,” the report said.

Last night Kyibyshevsky district was also shelled, which caused a fire at the administrative building of the state-run enterprise DUEK.

On Aug. 27 morning, Kirovsky and Kuibyshevsky districts of Donetsk also sustained shell attacks, and as a result a transformer station on the territory of the Abakumov coalmine caught fire.

The situation in the city is tense, the mayor’s office said.
