The Security Service of Ukraine has announced that three Communist Party of Ukraine activists have been detained who confessed to committing ten terrorist attacks in Odesa.

“The gang of communist-terrorists has been liquidated. Three people have been detained who confessed to committing ten terrorist attacks in Odesa,” SBU spokesperson Olena Hitlianska said at a briefing in Kyiv on April 1.

“The detainees testified and confessed to committing their crimes,” she said.

Hitlianska said that the investigators of the SBU branch in Odesa region have launched criminal proceedings under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and have informed the detainees of the charges.

She said that during the search of the detainees’ residence, timers and clock mechanisms were found, which were similar to those that triggered explosive devices during the terrorist attacks in Odesa. In addition, chemicals, mobile phone parts, and a sawed-off hunting rifle were seized.

Hitlianska said that the detainees had confirmed their involvement in ten terrorist attacks, in particular the explosions that took place on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 of 2014, and on Jan. 4, Jan. 16, Feb. 17, Feb. 12 and March 28 of 2015. Their testimonies are currently being examined.
