You're reading: Tiahnybok says his faction will not support Yatsenyuk’s resignation as Ukraine prime minister

The leader of the Svoboda faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Oleh Tiahnybok, has said that his faction will not support the resignation of Arseniy Yatsenyuk from the post of Ukraine's prime minister.

“We had no intention of voting for the premier’s resignation,” he told reporters in parliament on Friday, July 25.

The Verkhovna Rada has not received Yatseniuk’s letter of resignation so far, Tiahnybok said.

“Even if we had such a letter of resignation, parliament would not agree to support it,” he said.

“Yatsenyuk will stay the prime minister both de jure and de facto,” he said.

The decision to appoint Volodymyr Hroisman as Ukraine’s acting prime
minister is a “gross violation of Ukrainian laws because the government
is not authorized to appoint acting [prime ministers],” Tiahnybok said.
