About Hr 16 billion will be needed this year to realize most social initiatives proposed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Deputy Prime Minister and Social Policy Minister Sergiy Tigipko has said.

"As for revenues and expenditures, we completely calculated [the amount of funds needed to implement] these initiatives. If we don’t take into account incentives for mortgage housing construction, then, together with payments on the deposits [of the former Soviet Sberbank], it will be about Hr 16 billion this year," he told journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday, March 7.

"These things have been completely calculated by the Finance Ministry. The Finance Ministry has funds for this," Tigipko said.

He said that the necessary amount of funds could be raised, in particular, by the introduction of a luxury tax, and there is also an opportunity to increase revenues to the state budget from the customs service.
