You're reading: Tigipko hopes to bring Crimea back to Ukraine through economic integration

The political issue of Crimea could be resolved through economic methods, setting up the most favorable economic relations as possible, presidential candidate MP Sergiy Tigipko has said.

“As China returned Hong Kong, Ukraine will do the same and bring
Crimea back, when the time comes,” he said during a trip to Kherson.

According to Tigipko, for this purpose it is necessary to take
maximal steps not to break off economic relations, but, vice versa, to
improve them as much as possible.

“We should invest in Crimea, establish joint projects in Crimea, so
as not to transform Kherson region into frontline zone, but for it to
efficiently deal with the border trade,” Tigipko said.

He said it is necessary to re-establish ready economic liaisons, in
particular “not to be afraid of selling water and electric energy to
Crimea.”

“Today Kherson doesn’t get money for things it could [get money for],” the politician said.
