Imprisoned former Prime
Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said she should be present at a meeting between
President Viktor Yanukovych and political opposition leaders, writes Ukrainska
Pravda
. On June 10, Parliament Speaker Mykola Rybak said that the president
is ready to meet for talks with the opposition. 

The head of Kyiv’s elite Berkut police unit, Oleksandr Paslen was
dismissed for inaction during beatings of journalists on May 18 at a political
rally, writes daily Vesti, citing the interior ministry. 

Ukraine’s KGB successor
agency, SBU, busted an international drug smuggling canal from a Western
European country to Ukraine catching a Poltava oblast resident red-handed while
receiving a drug package worth hr 500,000, the
SBU announced on June 11
.  

Police say they’ve drafted a
bill to ban the wearing of masks at public assemblies or rallies, reports Kommersant.ua. 

Ukrainians are withdrawing
less money from their hard currency deposits, writes Kommersant.ua. In May
only $4.4 million was withdrawn, whereas the average monthly withdrawal rate in
February-March was $200 million.

Ukraine’s top soccer
governing body
denied football club Kryvbas’s appeal to get a license to
play in next year’s domestic premier league. The Football Federation of Ukraine
had earlier banned the soccer club from top-flight domestic league play for not
meeting financial obligations.
