Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov has said he hopes that the president will sign the law on the lustration of the chain of power in the coming days.

“I very hope that the president will sign it [the law on lustration], because every day of delay of signing of this law blocks any real changes in the country, any reforms in Ukraine,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

He said that it was impossible to carry out reforms without an execution of the mechanism of power lustration.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on lustration at third attempt on Sept. 16. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov signed the law on lustration on Sept. 25.

Ukrainian Premier Arseniy Yatseniuk said that about 1 million persons come within the purview of this law. He said that all chain of command fall under this law.

On Sept. 25, at a press conference in Kyiv Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that he has yet to see the final draft of the lustration law and told public representatives they have ten days to study the bill and make their proposals on what the head of state should do.
