Oleksandr Turchynov, speaker of the Ukrainian parliament and acting president of Ukraine, has justified the construction of anti-tank ditches on the Ukrainian-Russian border.

“We are now defending Ukraine, defending our borders, including using
anti-tank ditches. I don’t see any problems for people who think about
the protection of their fatherland,” Turchynov said at a plenary session
of the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday morning, reacting to the
statement made by Oleksandr Ponomariov, a member of the Party of Regions
faction of the Ukrainian parliament, who said that the anti-tank
ditches are “a monument to stupidity” and they may hurt owners of land
sites and farmers.

Turchynov said there are a lot of Russian troops and “a huge number
of armored vehicles and tanks” along the Ukrainian-Russian border.
