Acting Ukrainian President and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov has met with a U.S. Congress delegation headed by Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives Ed Royce and discussed the situation in the country and further bilateral cooperation, according to the Web site of the Ukrainian parliament.

The meeting took place in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Turchynov said that contrary to the Geneva agreements, specially
trained terrorist and subversive groups, “coordinated by Russia,” were
continuing to try to destabilize the situation in eastern Ukraine.

“Military aggression against our country is a challenge not only to
our country, this is a challenge to Europe and the entire civilized
world,” he said, adding that strategic partners will not leave Ukraine
one-on-one with the aggressor.

The sides also discussed the main areas of reforms and promising investment projects that could be implemented in Ukraine.

“The administrative pressure created preconditions for corruption. We
are walking the path of economic deregulation and tax reform,” he said,
adding that the issue concerns the simplification of the tax system and
a drop in the number of taxes.

The congressmen, in turn, expressed their support for the steps that
the new authorities in Ukraine are taking towards the development of the
country and the strengthening of relations between the two countries,
