You're reading: Turchynov: Opposition submits constitutional act to parliament

The Ukrainian opposition has submitted a bill to the country's parliament seeking a revival of the 2004 constitution, Batkivschyna opposition faction MP Oleksandr Turchynov said in the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.

“We have submitted this document. At the moment it is being registered in parliament,” he said.

The bill was earlier agreed upon by the faction leaders and the parliament speaker, he said.

Proposed amendments to the constitution should be debated as well, Turchynov said.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Rybak earlier criticized the opposition for “raising the issue [of constitutional amendments] in the absence of such a bill in the Verkhovna Rada.”
