Ukrainian Acting President and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov has described as a "farce" the so-called referendums held on May 11 in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

He said at a meeting of the parliament’s conciliatory council on Monday that they had been attended a minimum number of people.

“As for the participation of citizens, according to the Interior Ministry and the experts who were in Donetsk and Luhansk regions yesterday, this farce was attended by around 24 percent of the population eligible to vote in Luhansk region and slightly more than 32 percent in Donetsk region,” he said.

At the same time, he said, “in many cities of Luhansk region this farce was not carried out at all.”
