Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov has commented on a lawsuit sent by the Ukrainian Justice Ministry to Kyiv's District Administrative Court to ban the activities of the Communist Party of Ukraine, the press service of the Verkhovna Rada has reported.

“There should be no political forces in a new Ukraine that hate people and support occupiers, working on the destruction of their country,” he said in a statement early on Wednesday, July 9.

Turchynov thanked the Justice Ministry for fulfilling the order that he gave during commemorative events in Bykivnia to prepare a lawsuit in court to ban the Communist Party on the basis of materials collected by the Security Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office concerning the Communists’ cooperation with members of illegal armed groups and other unconstitutional actions.

“I hope that the court will make a fair decision and put an end in Ukraine to such a dangerous rudiment of totalitarianism as the Communist Party and the Communist ideology,” Turchynov said.
