Special operations units of Ukraine's State Guard Departmenthave conducted a "mopping-up operation" in the vicinity of Mount Karachun in Sloviansk, where a television tower is located, Ukraine's Channel 5 TV station reported on May 15 morning.

One soldier was injured during the operation, it said.

The special operations units, who arrived in two helicopters, “took over control of the position from the adversary, and the security area was increased within a radius of 5,000 meters from the TV tower,” the TV channel said.

“One of the special operations unit soldiers was slightly injured in his leg,” it said.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry, for its part, has published photographs on its Facebook page showing a Ukrainian flag raised near the TV tower at the highest point of Sloviansk.

Fighting between Ukrainian security forces and the local “militia” near the TV tower has been underway since mid-April, with the territory repeatedly changing hands.

Early on May 11, the “self-defense units” of Sloviansk opened fire on the TV tower, injuring 2 Ukrainian soldiers.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov reported on May 12 that no one had been killed or injured as a result of gunfire near the TV tower.
