You're reading: Two Russian battalion task groups cross Ukrainian border

The National Security and Defense Council has said that two large task groups of the Russian Armed Forces crossed the Ukrainian border on Jan. 19.

“Under real-time information from the National Security and Defense Council, today we registered two battalion task groups of the Russian Armed Forces crossing the Ukrainian-Russian border,” reads a report posted on the council’s website.

Military operations spokesman Andriy Lysenko told Interfax-Ukraine that the Russian task groups entered Ukraine in Luhansk oblast, into territory controlled by militants in the first half of Jan. 19.

Lysenko added that the direction the task groups are travelling in is unknown so far.
