You're reading: Two thirds of citizens in south-eastern Ukraine accept Yanukovych ouster

Over two thirds (69.8%) of the adult population of the south-eastern Ukraine don't consider Viktor Yanukovych the legitimate president of the country, and the number of people considering former head of state illegitimate (as president) is more than half of the population in every region.

This is evident from the poll conducted by the Kyiv International
Institute of Sociology (KIIS) through April 10-15 at the order of ZN.UA.
The results of the poll were published in Ukrainian weekly “Dzerkalo
Tyzhnia” on Saturday.

Only every fifth citizen (19.8%) in the eight regions sees Yanukovych
as the country’s legitimate president. A total of 8.5% remain
undecided.

A total of 32.4% consider Yanukovych a president in Donetsk region
(58.2% – don’t consider him legitimate, 7.9% – undecided). In Luhansk
region he’s considered the legitimate president by 27.6%
(correspondingly 57.6% consider him illegitimate and 12.9% are
undecided), in Kharkiv region – 12.8% (76.3% and 8.9% correspondingly),
in Zaporizhia region – 11.58% (73.1% and 9.6%), in Dnipropetrovsk region
– 14.8% (78% and 5%) and in Odesa region – 15.5% (68.4% and 11.6%).

In Mykolaiv region a total of 12.8% consider Yanukovych the legitimate president and in Kherson region – 9.1%.

The poll was conducted by the KIIS through April 10-15 under the
order of ZN.UA. A total of 3,232 respondents over 18 years old in 160
cities and towns of eight southeastern regions of Ukraine (Odesa,
Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and
Donetsk regions) were surveyed. A total of 1476 were interviewed by
phone and 1,756 – personally. At least 400 interviews were conducted in
every region. The survey’s margin of error does not exceed 0.95%.
