You're reading: Tymoshenko calls for immediate state of emergency in conflict regions of Ukraine

Ukrainian presidential candidate, leader of the Batkivschyna party Yulia Tymoshenko calls for the immediate introduction of a state of emergency in the regions facing military aggression. "The advice I now give to the Ukrainian authorities is that there should be an immediate military reaction to the war declared by Russia on us. Therefore, at the first stage, I believe a state of emergency in the regions where this aggression is now really happening should be announced immediately," Tymoshenko said in an interview with Radio Svoboda on April 16.

“And that means that it will give us the right to use the army along with other things,” she added.

“Yet, the problem is… that we’ve got the army, police, secret
services … in extremely decayed and demoralized condition, and totally
unprepared for modern warfare,” Tymoshenko said.

At the same time, Tymoshenko is confident that the state of emergency
is a must. “This must be done. And they should look for those patriotic
servicemen, officers, security agents who are now ready to assume
responsibility and undertake duties to safeguard Ukraine,” she said.
