Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and leader of the Batkivschyna party Yulia Tymoshenko believes that her defense counsel, MP Serhiy Vlasenko, will bring from abroad irrefutable proof of the political nature of the criminal case against her on the abuse of office during the signing of the gas agreements with Russia in 2009.

"At the invitation of an [auditing] company, Serhiy Vlasenko left today to obtain evidence of my innocence in these criminal proceedings on natural gas.

They have prepared findings and conclusions that completely overturn the charges. He will bring irrefutable proof that this trial is political repression," she told reporters on Monday after a sitting of Pechersky District Court.

Tymoshenko did not specify where her lawyer went. "[It’s] not Russia – that’s not true," she said, answering a question from reporters.

The ex-premier also said: "Vlasenko didn’t try to hide where he went. The Security Service of Ukraine can find out at any time where he flew to."
