Ukrainian premier and presidential candidate Yulia Tymoshenko has said that historic truth should be a guideline in the issue of bestowing the Hero of Ukraine award on Stepan Bandera.
"The absolute valuable for Ukraine is our independence, and historians and intelligent people should clearly determine what heroes had protected our independence and what heroes had worked against independence, and this is the truth. All heroes who really protected independence in the history should be heroes," she said on the Inter television channel on Friday.
She added that she plans to do all possible so that "Ukraine’s real history was restored, and people understand this history in the same way irrespective where they live in east or west."
She said that the president’s task is not to divide and contrapose, but to unite people of the country.
