Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has pledged to revamp Ukraine's ailing hospitals and health system within two years.

Tymoshenko said this while meeting with medical staff of the Chernihiv regional oncologic dispensary.

"Our goal is maximal supplies of modern equipment to all our hospitals… I think we can and we must implement this program within one year and a half or within two years," the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Tymoshenko said the government wants to implement this program due to the negotiations with leading international producers of medical equipment.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, the medical equipment will be purchased against credits raised for 20-25 years under modest interest rates.

In particular, Yulia Tymoshenko said the government has agreed on purchase of equipment for maternity hospitals and the medical equipment supplies will start by the end of 2009.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said Ukrainian hospitals will be provided with the required quantity of artificial lung ventilation apparatuses for patients suffering from pneumonia until November 8.
