The Cabinet of Ministers has proposed creating independent anti-corruption bureaus in Ukraine, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.

"We want, following the example of other countries, to set up special independent anti-corruption bureaus that will be involved in investigations, and bringing corrupt officials to account," she said while opening an extraordinary government meeting on Tuesday.

Tymoshenko said that the creation of such bureaus is stipulated in an anti-corruption policy strategy that is to be approved at the government meeting on Tuesday.

She said that bureaus should be separate structures independent of other government agencies.
