Ukraine is recruiting special brigades to take part in military action in the eastern regions of the country, Yulia Tymoshenko, presidential candidate and leader of the Batkivschyna party, said.

“Only those patriots who have combat experience, including in UN
missions in problem regions of the world, can defend Ukraine. We now
want to gather such people who will voluntarily defend Ukraine and who
have such combat experience,” Tymoshenko said during a meeting with
reservists on the testing ground in the Rivne region, the Batkivschyna
website reported on April 30.

“Today I have called on the country to create a resistance movement
based on the law and coordination with the army. At the same time, these
territorial self-defense brigades will be able to create groups that
will act appropriately against occupants and aggressors,” Tymoshenko
said.

Tymoshenko also reiterated that the work of the territorial
self-defense brigades will be coordinated by the Ukrainian Defense
Ministry.
