Ukrainian presidential candidate and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has welcomed the decision by the G7 countries on the immediate strengthening of sanctions against Russia, and said she believes that such measures may stop its aggression against Ukraine, reads a statement posted on her official Web site.

“Now is the time for the third level of sanctions. I welcome the decision to implement them and hope that, as was announced today, these will be sanctions that target the [Russian] banking system and energy sector,” Tymoshenko said in an interview with the television service of the Associated Press.

As reported, the G7 countries expressed their readiness to impose new sanctions on Russia as soon as possible due to its actions in Ukraine, because Russia “has taken no concrete actions in support of the Geneva accord.” A White House representative said that new financial constraints could come into force on Monday.

At the same time, Washington said that Moscow still has the opportunity to participate in the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
