You're reading: UK official: Russia must re-examine its policy of supporting separatists in east of Ukraine

The United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the United Nations Security Council Mark Lyall Grant has said that the Malaysian jet crash should serve as a "wake-up call in Moscow" and prompted Russia to re-examine its policy of supporting, training and arming the separatists in the east of Ukraine.

The background of the crash was “Russian efforts to destabilize
Ukraine” he said during the UN Security Council meeting on July 21 ,and
called for that effort to end [support for the separatists].

Grant said the council’s resolution spelled out the world’s demands
for an end to the “inexcusable” treatment of the victims’ by insurgents
controlling the area whose behavior had been “sickening and appalling
beyond belief”.

“Investigators must have immediate access and those responsible must be held accountable,” the ambassador said.

Grant said that he is indignant over reports that the separatists stole black boxes from the crash scene.
