Ukraine's acting president and Verkhovna Rada speaker, Oleksandr Turchynov, has registered a draft resolution endorsing Col. Gen. Mykhailo Koval's appointment to the post of the country's acting defense minister.

The draft resolution proposes “appointing Mykhailo Volodymyrovych Koval to the post of acting defense minister of Ukraine.”

The document comes into force as soon as it is adopted.

Koval, who holds the rank of colonel general of Ukraine’s Border Guard Troops, was born in the town of Iziaslav on February 26, 1956.

Ukraine’s acting Defense Minister Admiral Ihor Teniukh said in the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday that he would like to step down.

The Ukrainian parliament, however, refused to accept Teniukh’s resignation.
